Svetlana Kuznetsova says she is likely to miss the 2018 Australian Open in January due to a problematic injury to her left wrist.
World number 12 Kuznetsova has been hampered by the injury since the US Open at Flushing Meadows in August and she went under the knife a few weeks ago in a bid to resolve the problem.
The Russian, who is a three-time quarter-finalist Down Under, has now provided an update on her recovery and the initial signs suggest she will not be fit enough to compete in the first Grand Slam of 2018.
"Diagnosis is very complicated," the two-time Grand Slam champion told Sports Express. "I am still recovering. My doctor has not been giving specific dates when I can re-start training and competing.
"It seems I will miss Australia. Also for St. Petersburg event (which is played the week after Melbourne) I can't say anything."
