The two-time Wimbledon champion shared photos on social media of her playing tennis again in Monaco - the first time she has confirmed she is back hitting balls since she was attacked by an intruder into her home at the end of last year.

Alongside the picture on Instagram, the Czech star wrote: "I hope this picture makes you as happy as it makes me! I am in Monaco and guess what? I'm back on the tennis court, hitting with some proper balls and reunited with my dear friend, [my] Wilson racquet."

The 27-year-old will hope to continue to build up her fitness over the next few weeks and she does hold an entry in the French Open, which starts on May 28, but has yet to decide whether to play in the Grand Slam tournament.

Kvitova had previously said she was doing well in her recovery from the serious hand injury sustained in the attack, while it was reported that she would likely be out of action for up to six months at the time of the incident.
