The Scot has not played competitively since Wimbledon due to a hip operation although he appeared alongside Roger Federer in November at an exhibition event for his charity in Glasgow.

Murray was due to return in Brisbane and had planned to travel Down Under before Christmas Day, but has now reportedly delayed his departure amid fears over his troublesome hip.

Despite remaining on the entry list, a number of sources say he could now skip the event in Queensland, which begins on New Year's Day, and instead look at other tournaments before heading to Melbourne for the Australian Open.

The first Grand Slam of the season begins on January 15 and will see Murray try to finally win at Melbourne Park, having lost the final on five previous occasions.

However, he may have to do it the hard way, having slipped to 16th in the world rankings during his enforced time away from the game.
