The 31-year-old went into the year's first Grand Slam event in Melbourne with some question marks surrounding his fitness levels as he finished 2017 carrying a knee problem.

However, the world number one and top seed showed no signs of any issues as he thumped the 25-year-old Bosnian 6-1 6-3 6-1 in one hour and 50 minutes to set up a last-16 showdown against Argentinian Diego Schwartzman.

Nadal, who is yet to lose a set in the tournament and has dropped just 21 games in three rounds, told reporters: "The most important thing is that I am in the fourth round."
