Shapovalov realistic on Grand Slam chances

The Canadian teenager has enjoyed a breakthrough couple of months on the ATP Tour, reaching the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup in August before progressing through to the fourth round of the US Open - his best performance at a Slam to date.

The 18-year-old, who beat Rafael Nadal on his way through to the last four in Montreal, feels his all-round game has got better.

"I think a lot of aspects of my tennis game have improved," Shapovalov said. "My serve and returns are getting better. I'm coming to the net a lot more, but the biggest thing I've improved is my fighting spirit. Just staying calm and fighting for every point."

Shapovalov's recent exploits have seen him rise up to a career high of 51st in the latest world rankings although he believes he is still a long from being able to challenge the world's best players for major titles.

He added: "One day I would love to win a Slam. But I think I'm still really far from that and still have a lot of work to do. At the end of the day, I'm still only 18."
