Williams backed for strong return

Williams has not played since claiming her 23rd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January, after announcing to the world in April that she was pregnant.

The American ace has now given birth to daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian and posted several pictures on social media of her new addition.

However, the Florida resident has made it clear that she intends to return to professional tennis next season and will be looking for yet another Grand Slam success Down Under in January.

There is a precedent as Belgian star Kim Clijsters retired for two years to become a mother before re-emerging to claim the 2009 US Open.

Whether of not Williams can follow suit only time will tell but her close friend Wozniacki feels sure she will be a force once again and cope with being a parent and playing tennis.

"Serena, I think she can be focused on both," she said. "I think she's going to do a strong comeback but I think at the same time she's enjoying being a mum as well and getting that whole experience."
