Saints are currently unbeaten in six games in all competitions and find themselves sitting tenth in the Premier League.

Claude Puel’s men played all six of those fixtures in the space of a busy 17-day period prior to the international break and Ward-Prowse is delighted to have so many opportunities on offer.

The England under-21 international insists it has helped to keep the squad happy and believes it has allowed them to build momentum.

Ward-Prowse said: “The run has given us a lot of confidence. There has been a lot of squad rotation and everyone has come in and done really well, so there are a lot of positive signs and hopefully we can carry on this momentum.

“Mentally it is positive because you are eager for the next game. It is going to be a tough few games coming up with some long trips, so I think these wins can obviously help that as well.

“It is obviously a bit of a different season with the volume of games so there are a lot of changes but the detail we have been working to has been very important.”
