A new free smartphone app can help you put meals together just by taking photos of your ingredients.
All you have to do is collect the food items in your fridge and pantry together and take a photo of it using the app Yummly 2.0 - which will be available for free on the iOS and Android app stores - and it will give you be able to identify it and give you meal suggestions.
Edwina Clark, Yummly's Head of Nutrition and Wellness, said: "It's our latest greatest feature. I want recipe recommendations based on things I already have at home. People find they have a hodge-podge of things, so we have solved that with ingredient recognition ... We have a different approach to nutritional information. We use natural language processing to attach nutrition information tor recipes and display it like this, instead of a traditional label."
Yummly have also teamed up with Whirlpool and you can even control certain appliances - such as an oven - from within the app.
Speaking at The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, a Whirlpool demonstrator shared: "This allows us to leave the kitchen; we don't have to baby sit. If you've ever left the kitchen and then you smelled something burning in the background because you forgot about the dish you were cooking, or the pot boils over - well now you can go switch the laundry to the dryer, help the kids with the homework, and it's going to let you know when your meal is done in the range ...
"Let's say she went to walk her dog, and she's not there to take the salmon out when its complete. It will allow her to keep this warm for 5 minutes, it will allow her to say that it's done, or it will allow her to add more time to that recipe, if she feels it needs more."
