The National Health Service have rolled out a new system, which allows people to be signed off sick if isolating due to exhibiting coronavirus symptoms themselves or living with someone who is.

UK Health and Social Care Secretary, Matt Hancock, said: "It is absolutely vital we do everything we can to ease the burden on our healthcare professionals, allowing them to spend as much time as possible with those patients that need them most. Digital isolation notes will provide reassurance to those self-isolating and their employers while also reducing the pressure on our NHS. The health service can continue doing all they can to protect the people of this country and save lives."

Employees are able to self-certify sickness for seven days but then must get a note from a doctor if they need to be off for longer.

It has also been revealed that in the next few weeks, a service will launch that will allow employers to retrospectively check pre-issued notes.
