Vodafone has launched new tech in the UK to expand its network's reach.
The firm has teamed up with Intel to create an innovative open radio technology called OpenRAN (Open Radio Access Networks), which they hope will enable them to offer their data connection to people in more remote parts of the country.
Vodafone Group's chief executive, Nick Read said: "We are pleased with trials of OpenRAN and are ready to fast-track it into Europe as we seek to actively expand our vendor ecosystem.
"OpenRAN improves the network economics, enabling us to reach more people in rural communities, and that supports our goal to build digital societies in which no-one is left behind."
The open technology, which is being tested, could give customers lower bills for phone calls and data.
