Matt Di Angelo - who plays Dean - is set to leave the BBC One soap and it's now been reported his departure will come after he attempts to rape girlfriend Roxy (Rita Simons) following his attack on his brother Mick Carter's partner Linda last year.

The BBC are said to be developing the storyline - which will air in the next couple of months - with the help of the charity Rape Crisis.

Viewers have already seen Dean display some disturbing behaviour towards Roxy when he cut off a massive chunk of her hair after losing his temper and also appeared to deliberately burn her with hair straighteners.

But the BBC has vowed that Dean will soon be brought to "justice".

Executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins said: "There is justice. And how it's meted out will be satisfying but shocking too."

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed Mick (Danny Dyer) will team up with Roxy's sister Ronnie Mitchell (Sam Womack) to give Dean his comeuppance.
