It seemed to all get too much for the former footballer when he was caught in a blazing row between Lady Colin Campbell, Chris Eubank and the other campmates over Jorgie Porter and Tony Hadley's decision to refuse to be their bellboy and chambermaid after they won a night in the jungle's boutique hotel.

On their return, he told the camp: "There was no malice [in the decision]. You didn't know if there were repercussions, you didn't know if we were then not going to get food or not have a bath.

"I bet if Susannah, Yvette and Tony won the thing, someone would be going over there to be bellboy and chambermaid that is how I felt."

And it was when camp leader Duncan Bannatyne appeared to blame the 36-year-old sportsmen for allowing Lady C to talk and causing another row, he stormed up to the Bush Telegraph and asked to leave.

He said: "I'm going, I'm quitting the show. I want to leave, I'm a celebrity, get me out of here."

But it was boxer Chris who convinced him to stay and after their chat, he was feeling more positive about his jungle future.

He added: "After that pep talk I was like I want to make my kids proud. So I'm going to do everything I can to stay as long as possible. My greatest challenge in the jungle is yet to come. I'm going to get everyone to love Lady C and I'm going to get Lady C to not curse and not put people down."
